ECONOMIC MARKET REPORTS

How To Write a Market Report
Economic market reports are very different from any other type of literature and present a challenge if you are not familiar with the genre. Therefore, I will instruct you on how to write a more generalized overview of a market or company.
BASIC INFORMATION
In order to write an overview market report of a market or company you must have some important basic information:
1. The condition of the company in relation to its’ overall value through investors, or if it’s a market such as the Dow Jones Industrial Average, you need to have the total condition of the market at closing of the day before.
2. How the stocks or markets are doing at 3 different times in the day, morning, afternoon, and before the bell rings (closes).
3. Information about what products are popular at the time of trading that day.
4. Being able to calculate statistical differences of markets or stocks to show how the market or company is doing from day to day.
MOST IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Now that we have some basic information about the market or company, we can determine what the most important information is that we need to write about, which you can find on major news publication websites like the Wall Street Journal, CNBC, Fox News, and CNN:
1. The past day’s events.
2. Successful stocks (companies) in the past day, (stocks that are worth taking a look at to invest in)
A. Along with their differences in their statistical percentages.
3. Stocks that have not done so well.
A. Along with their differences in their statistical percentages.
4. Products that are popular.
PUTTING THE MARKET REPORT TOGETHER
A. Once we have this information we can start to put the market report together. The first thing you want to do is start the report by telling of the past day’s general events, such as how the certain companies’ stocks opened up in the morning.
B. Then you can move in to how the bigger markets have been doing, including the Dow Jones Industrial Average, the NASDAQ, and the S&P 500.
C. After you explain how the big markets did the day before you can start to key in on particular stocks, bonds, mutual funds, or commodities. This is the time to use the differences in statistical percentage information to paint a picture of how well or bad a particular stock, bond, mutual fund, or commodity is doing in relation to the past few days. Usually authors of these reports talk about a few companies that are doing well, while also talking about a few companies that are doing bad. This part of the report is the most important and gives great insight to many potential investors that are looking for new companies or markets to invest in.
D. After the description of the companies that are doing well and the companies that aren’t doing so well, it’s time to move on to a summary of the products that are currently becoming popular.
E. Jargon is usually used more often when talking about different types of products. For example, when the authors of market reports are talking about “techs”, they are describing gadgets and internet based companies like Blackberry phones, Palm Pres, and websites like Google.
F. Once the description and update of the popular products has been concluded, it is now the time to recap the information of what you have written, starting with the general overview of events of the past day, government condition in relation to the economy, then you can start to reiterate the current major markets like the Dow Jones, NASDAQ, and S&P 500, followed by a review of particular stocks, bonds, mutual funds, commodities and popular products. This last paragraph should mirror a regular conclusion and just summarize what you have already stated.
Market reports are very interesting and useful and help potential investors receive current news about the status of the economy, current markets, and particular stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and commodities. This allows these potential investors to make informed decisions on possible investing opportunities that present themselves at the time.
